The Helmanian Empire is the oldest surviving nation on the Continent. Once a powerful military nation, Helman has been weakened by years of corruption and political decay. With the possibility of civil war and foreign invasion growing closer, the country is on the verge of collapse. Years earlier, Prince Patton Misnarge attempted to prove himself by invading another country, but his campaign ended in failure and he disappeared from public life. Rather than abandoning his homeland, Patton spent years training and eventually returned as a stronger and more capable leader. Patton's goal is to overthrow the corrupt forces controlling Helman and begin a revolution that will restore the country. However, he knows that he needs an exceptional warrior to lead the military campaign. That warrior is Rance. Rance initially has his own reasons for becoming involved. His longtime companion Sill has been frozen in a block of ice by the Archfiend, and Rance is looking for a way to save her. When Patton offers him the opportunity to enter Helman, Rance sees the revolution as a chance to pursue his own objectives. He agrees to help—but insists on becoming the leader of the Revolutionary Army. Together with Patton and a group of powerful allies, Rance begins the campaign to overthrow the forces controlling Helman. The Revolutionary Army must fight through enemy forces, capture strategic locations, and gradually weaken the regime while dealing with the political and military dangers surrounding the revolution. Along the way, Rance is joined by characters including Kanami Kentou, Shizuka Masou, Senhime, Tilde Sharp, Russian Cullet, Pigu Greciam, and the powerful mage Miracle Tor. Each character brings different abilities and personalities to the Revolutionary Army. As the campaign progresses, the revolution becomes a struggle for the future of Helman. Rance and Patton must overcome the Empire's military forces and the people manipulating the country from behind the scenes. With the Revolutionary Army advancing toward its ultimate objective, Rance must use his overwhelming strength and unpredictable leadership to help Patton reclaim his homeland and bring about the Helmanian Revolution.
