Storyline
Fuminori Sakisaka is a medical student whose life is destroyed by a tragic car accident. After undergoing experimental brain surgery, he survives but develops a severe disorder that completely changes the way he perceives the world.
Everything around him now appears monstrous and grotesque, while the people he once knew have become horrifying creatures. Unable to endure his new reality, Fuminori begins considering suicide.
His life changes when he encounters Saya, a mysterious young woman searching for her missing father, Professor Masahiko Ogai. Unlike everything else around him, Saya appears beautiful and human to Fuminori. She becomes the only person he can comfortably interact with, and the two gradually develop a deep relationship.
However, Fuminori's friends begin noticing how dramatically he has changed. His best friend Koji Tonoh, along with Yoh, Omi, and Fuminori's doctor Ryoko Tanbo, become increasingly concerned about his strange behavior and attempt to discover what happened to him.
As Fuminori becomes more dependent on Saya, the boundary between love and madness begins to disappear. Strange incidents surrounding Professor Ogai and Saya's mysterious origins lead Koji and Ryoko toward a horrifying truth.
The closer they get to discovering what Saya really is, the more Fuminori is forced to choose between returning to the world he once knew and remaining with the one person who makes his nightmare appear beautiful.
Saya no Uta explores the terrifying idea that reality itself can depend on how we perceive it—and asks how far someone might go to remain with the only person they believe can understand them.
