Kisaku Itou is the youngest member of the infamous Itou family. After learning that his older brother Shuusaku has died, Kisaku decides that he will not follow the same path as his brothers. Instead, he wants to establish himself in his own way and prove that he can succeed. An opportunity appears when Kisaku discovers an advertisement for a temporary live-in manager at an employee dormitory operated by Sugimoto Pharmaceutical. He applies for the position and, despite the interviewer's reservations, is eventually hired. Once he moves into the company dormitory, Kisaku begins observing the people around him and learning about their personal lives. Rather than simply performing his duties as a dormitory manager, he uses what he discovers to gain leverage over the people he encounters. The game follows Kisaku as he attempts to advance his position while pursuing his own ambitions. His interactions with the women connected to the company lead to different scenarios and routes, while his performance as an employee also affects his progress. Players manage Kisaku's schedule and actions over an extended period, with their choices determining which characters and events become available. The game contains multiple endings, including additional routes that become accessible after completing the main scenarios. The Animated Complete Edition retains the original story and gameplay structure while adding animated scenes and other enhancements to the presentation.
